Networks & WiFi

The network is the most critical component in any smart home. Ours are engineered, segmented and monitored — not a router in a cupboard.

The home is equipped with a fascia-mounted Starlink antenna, using the Long Wall Mount, that provides high-speed Internet to this remote location. It also has multiple ICRealtime Bullet Cameras and Jellyfish Lighting to surround the home.

The network is the backbone that lets everything else talk to everything else. Thermostats, lights, shades, cameras, garage doors, televisions and touchscreens all depend on it, and when it is wrong, every one of them is unreliable in a way that is maddening to diagnose.

We wire three physically separate networks in a Wired4 home — primary, audio and video — so that bandwidth-hungry video traffic cannot interfere with the synchronization of audio across zones, and so that a fault in one is not a fault in all three.

This is the part of our work that comes most directly from our background in enterprise IT, and it is the clearest difference between us and an integrator who came up through audio-video retail.

From our projects

All wires are terminated at both ends. Patch panels are clearly labeled and we test all Category wires to 10Gbps. Test results are saved and made available through HomeBook.

We keep working systems you can walk through, rather than a showroom of things that were never installed in a real house.
